carpet padding in basements

a friend of mine told me he had horse hair carpet padding installed in his basement. he was told it was highly recommended because it allows for breathing better than other types of padding. ever hear of this horse stuff? if so, what do u think or suggest? thank you.

I don't think they make that stuff any more do they? Most fiber or felt pads are made with synthetic threads now and not horse hair or jute. Besides horse hair will absorb moisture and synthetics won't. I personally think that would make it a very bad choice for a basement carpet pad if breathability is your major concern.
