Talking Circuit Breaker

Any creative suggestions for an access panel for the circuit breaker box? We've seen the plastic/metal ones at Lowes and Home Depot. We're looking for something more decorative and paintable. The others, I'm afraid, will stick out like a sore thumb. Any ideas? Thank you!

You might consider making it so big and plain it's not a feature on the wall but just seems part of the wall. Floor to ceiling.

And the electricians will love you because all the other stuff normally located near the panel is easily accessible. For sure someday you'll need another device - be it doorbell transformer or holographic fantastitron - affixed near the panel.

You can make the cover out of drywall or plywood, and some J-bead or 2x2 to keep it straight, dress the edges, and perhaps set this "part of the wall" out a bit. Hidden spring catches can hold it in, the kind that release when you push the front.

Like kobuchi said, you could make it big and let it hide itself. Consider using a door that just doesn't go to another room.
