Asbestos floor tiles in basement.

Hey guys, is there a dead giveaway to determine if the flooring in my basement is asbestos? I have heard rumors that you can tell by measurements and the such... The house was built in 58 and the previous owners feel it is original flooring although they only lived there for 2 years. I would really like to remove this stuff and get to the concrete beneath it.. Is there a way that I myself can remove this without having to call in a bunch of professionals? I already know what asbestos can do, what it causes, that it's air born for days etc... Will a regular filtration mask keep this out of my lungs however? Can I just chisel this stuff up? Thanks a lot guys!
