Egress Window

Hi all,

Does anyone have any idea how much the egress window cost in pa ?
I think we need to take permit but for that egress window is a must.Also,how much is the penalty for basement without pemit ?

The cost of an egress window depends upon its size and quality. Your local home center will have egress windows marked as meeting egrees standards. Egress windows must meet a minimum vertical and horizontal opening dimension as well as a minimum square footage. The requirements are designed to allow a fire fighter with air supply to fit through the opening.

Also please note that egress codes not only require a window that meets standards but establish the maxamum allowable hieght of the window sill above the floor (in remodels this can be met by providing a permanent step) and requirements for a window well if it is a daylight basement.

Check with your local jurisdiction for specifics.

An egress window is an absolute must if you are going to do any remodeling.

The extra cost is that of a slighlty larger window that you will enjoy more than a smaller window.

When you go to sell in the future, you may not be able to sell the home until you go through the cost of replacing a non-complying window. This is a big cost.

The egress window requirement will not go away.

There's also a requerement on the size of the window well (makes no sense to have the big window and no room in the window well to maneuver. And there may be a requirement for a fixed escape ladder.
