Just got asbestos tile removed....

It was all done today and in an hour they want me to inspect the work and then pay them. Is this standard protocol? They:

1. Had a negative air machine running
2. Closed off vents upstairs and told me they did it downstairs also
3. covered the furnace
4. Removed tile and mastic

I'm worried that it's not really safe for me to go down there. I saw them down there working in shorts and stuff and only some of them were wearing protective clothing/masks. I'm kinda worried this wasn't done as well as it should have been. They also used those paddle looking things to break up/scrape the tile off the floor. Should I be okay with all this? I'm in Ohio so I think the laws here might be more lenient on asbestos removal. I talked to the city and he said I could've removed the tile myself and just thrown it out in the trash (not labelled or anything). Thanks for the help, hopefully someone can reply quickly before I have to pay.

We had similar work done in Maryland (without mastic removal) and company had an independent third part come tes the air after the job. For us if we had wanted the mastic removed it would have been done with a very strong chemical. Did they do this or scrape it? I ask because it is my iderstand that asbestoc in the tile/mastic form is only really dangerous when sanded or cut or scraped to a fine dust. In any case, I would think there should be some testing to insure the area is clean and safe.

The air testing was an option but it was very expensive and not required by the state. They did not scrape the mastic at all, they used a low odor mastic remover.

I know they did use a grinder in one area, I suppose on tile, not sure. I guess it sounds like it should be fine down there?

FYI i called them and they said:

1. There was a death in the family (family owned business)
2. My basement wasn't inspected after it was done (also I thought it was odd everyone just left instead of showing me the finished job or even asking for a check).
3. It should've been a two day job but they had 6 people available so they thought they could get it done in one day.
4. They are sending someone out tomorrow morning to finish it.

I'm so glad they were cool about it. Hopefully after tomorrow it will look wonderful.
