floor covering for bath

Well, trying to decide the best floor covering for basement bath. I'm thinking ceramic tile with a heating element underneath. Live in Minnesota with very cold winters. Are there disadvanteges to using ceramic in the basement? Are there other options I should consider? thanks,

Ceramic tile is ideal for basements. You've already got a solid subfloor... Moisture won't hurt it... and temperatures won't affect it either...

A heating coil underneath it is perfect for those cold winters up North..

Heat under tile is great!! I once painted a house interior for a lady who had it. When I came to bid the job I had just left a cold muddy jobsite so I removed my boots and left them on the porch. When we got to the bath I didn't want to leave - the heat felt so good on my cold feet .....

Wouldn't a heating coil be dangerous though for the floor?

Properly laid out and installed under the tile... it's safe and toasty. That's not to say you should stick a heating pad to the concrete and tile over it... There are floor heating systems designed for under tile placement that are easy to install and a joy to step onto during a cold morning.

Trying to fix others errors!!!!!!

Someone was in the process of remodeling what is now my basement. However they did not finish sanding before they decided to paint the walls with an exterior acrylic semi gloss paint. I have tried to sand the seams and nail patches but it is not going well. Any suggestions as what I can do, or what other sanding tool might make it easier. Dire need of help.

1. Can I build the walls on the floor then raise them up? For walls that are perpendicular to the joists this looks like it won't be possible. In the process of raising the wall I would surely hit the back edge of the header 2x4 on the bottom of the joist. Any solutions to this? 2. I'm working in a basement with i-beam engineered wood joists. Can I use a nailer to attach the walls to these and not split the joists? Thanks. Jeff P.S. I couldn't find a way to just search this basement forum. or else I would have searched for these answers.
