Newly Constructed Home

My family and I moved into a newly constructed house less than a month ago. My wife is already wanting me to finish our basement just as I had finished the basement in our last house for our kids playroom. Our house sits up with a slope of atleast 4 feet moving away from our home on all 4 sides. Is there a certain time period that one should wait before finishing a basement? We live in the midwest (Ohio) and through construction to now, water of no kind has ever been visible on the poured walls.

I would wait for the end of the rainy season, assuming you have one - just to be on the safe side......

Welcome to the forums

If you had paid the builder to finish the basement he would have done so immediatetly. You do want to take precautions for possible water problems. Coating the foundation walls with Drylok [or similiar product] is cheap insurance.

hope you enjoy your new home

I waited until my 1 year warranty was up, just to see if any problems occurred with the basement walls or foundaton. Good luck.

You should wait through at least 4 seasons (about 12 months).
