door to the outside

My basement currently has no door from the outside. I am entertaining the idea of looking into putting a door in. My basement is below the ground so you would have to go about 7 ft down. Is this a big job and costly and is it even worth it? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Does your basement have any current means of eggress? Are you looking to do this as a DIY project?

P.T. Barnum once cleared out his overcrowded museum (in order to make more room for people paying to get in) by putting up a big sign saying:

"THIS WAY TO THE EGRESS!"

That would be "EXIT" to you and me.

No there is no way to exit other than going upstairs. The downstairs is completly undeground except for about a foot at the top (where the small basement windows are). Is this a project I could do myself and what would have to be done?

This would probably best be left to professionals. There is alot involved with excavation, concrete work, supporting and cutting an openoing in the existing foundation, drainage, etc. You are looking at several thousand dollars to have this done.
