Question need to drop basement floor 18-24"

I recently purchased a home and have the intention of finishing the basement. The furnace and hot water heater are in the middle of the basement and the floor to joist clearence is 6'. So the questions are: 1. how hard is it to move the furnace/ hot water heater and rerun the pipes and 2. is it safe to just jack hammer the floor out and dig 18-24" inches down? Or could there be sewage lines under the basement floor? I wouldnt think there would be but im not sure. please advise!

Thanks

Had friend with the same problem.
He lifted the house 15"!
He also jackhammered all the edges and waterproofed the basement.
Moved the Hvac and WH to one corner ,enclosed it.

In all, his house doubled in size.
He paid 19,000 he had it appraised at 67,000

Wink

Boy check the code there. You will find that you cant dig near the footing that you have there now to drop the floor in the basement. It can all come down on you
