i want to break up my basement floor,dig it down and repour the floor to get some head room down there.so i made a hole next to the wall to see what was going on there. it seems the foundation dosnt go any lower than the floor. so iwould have to pour a small wall in front of and attached to the foundation wall going down to the depth of my floor. how thick does the wall have to be?its dependant on how tall or to what depth it goes to right? i want to go about two feet.i was thinking of doing one wall at a time so as not to risk moving the the house.any advice would be welcome

We are adding a fresh air intake (for the furnace) to our new utility room. We have a gas furnace, tankless gas water heater (w/ own sealed air intake), and well water storage tank. We primarily heat with a wood stove upstairs, but the furnace is in use a couple hours a day. The room will be completely sealed and well insulated from the rest of the basement, even the door will be sealed. The utility room will also serve as storage for paint, extra food/beverages, possibly a small wine/beer storage area, etc. We live in the Colorado foothills so generally nighttime winter temps sit in the teens and sometimes (recently alot) get well below zero F. Should we be concerned about freezing pipes in there? Could it get cold enough to damage the more delicate items like wine/beer (we aren't snobs but occasionally cellar a couple bottles for a year or two)? Hubby thinks we should add an electric baseboard heater to keep the temp above 40 - good idea or pointless? Thank you AGAIN everyone! Remodeling a little log cabin in the big woods...
