I notice that many of your members have the same problem I do (mouse droppings and urine in the attic). My building is not a house but a new woodworking shop. It is wood framed with a peaked roof on wood trusses at 24" on centers. I stapled a transparent plastic vapor barrier to the underside of the trusses and placed 12" of fiberglass insulation above it. The building has only been used for storage for several years. I plan to finish it before winter (ceiling, electrical, heating system).Unfortunately, over the past few years, I have allowed the mice to get in, and, through the vapor barrier I can see numerous areas where there are mouse droppings. In hindsight, I should have left the insulation out until I was ready to finish the workshop.Assuming I can get the mice removed and prevented from re-entering, would it be OK to leave things as they are (the attic area will never be disturbed or used) ,or should I try to clean this up ? Any advice would be appreciated.

What is the proper way to construct a wood frame/sheetrock wall against a basement concrete block wall? We have earth against the back wall of our basement and along one of the side walls and are remodeling a bedroom in that corner of the house. Those two walls currently have paneling on them and there is some evidence of moisture and/or mold on the paneling. I want to remove the paneling, wash the block with TSP, seal any cracks and holes with hydraulic cement, paint the walls with concrete block paint, and then go back with drywall. Do I use treated lumber for the base plate? Do I raise the base plate above the floor? Do I leave an air space between the new wall and the concrete block? What do I do to insulate the wall? Do I use a vapor barrier against the concrete block. Do I use paperless drywall? Really what I need is a detailed step-by-step way of going about this to ensure that the basement walls are as dry and as trouble-free as the above-grade walls on the floor above the basement level.
