Support post removal??

Support post removal??
I am wanting to finish out my basement to be a rec. room. Question is, is there some way to remove the support posts? I am wanting to put a pool table down there and the posts interfere with the demensions of what I want. Some way to support the floor without having those posts in the way?? Thanks!!!
ps- this is what I do everytime I have a good shot and the pst is in the way...

We hired an architect to help us think through some remodel stuff and had this very question. His answer - no way in hades without hiring a structural engineer and facing some potentially expensive work.

My worst fears realized!!! MAN THAT SUcKS!!!!!! Ok well, I was kind of thinking about maybe doing it with a framed arch to strech between the two walls where the supports are...it is a rectangular room, and those posts are smack dab in the middle. Thanks for the reply....

I am doing the same thing right now...
I opted to talk to an engineer, and here is what he came up with..
I want to span 14" (columns are now every 7') so have to remove one..
He told me the size of the "c" channel steel to order and to lag it to the side of the existing (3) 2x10".
The cost of the steel delivered was about $450, and we had it up in a couple hours..
I have not removed the column yet.. but here are the pictures.. the $$ is definitly worth it to remove that column!

Any changes to structure will need to run by the local Building Code office and a permit gotten. As indicated, a consultation first with a structural engineer is recommended.
