We have a 1 1/2 story cape cod house with a "dormer" on the back that is the upstairs bathroom. The kneewalls on each side of the house butt up to the inside walls of the dormer. One side of the dormer is insulated from the kneewall and the other side where the bathtub is located is not . . . when I look in the kneewall I can see clear to the back of the tub/shower, etc. Should we insulated behind the tub where the wall is wide open into the exposed kneewall? We don't have any mold or anything in that upstairs bathroom, but in the winter the bathtub wall is cold and in the summer it's hot . . . will putting batt insulation inbetween the wall studs call any ventilation issues in that room? Thanks for any input.

We moved recently into a house that just does not have the same natural light as our previous home. I would like to rectify this in part by installing skylight in the kitchen and living room, and a light tube in each of the the bathrooms (both bathrooms are interior and have no windows). I think the light tubes will be fairly staight forward, i.e. cut a hole in the ceiling, cut a hole in the roof, attach the tube, flash and finish...... The skylights are a bit more complicated because of the need to build a well through the attic. I am at a bit of a loss as to how to go about properly designing the well to maximize the light. Looking at Velux skylights that are about 21 1/2" * 46 3/8", so I assume this will involve cutting through boards both at the roof and ceiling level. I believe that all of this is within my "skill level" as a carpenter, I am just not sure about all of the specifics, or how to best design these wells. Thanks, Dave
