basement slabs

is it necessary to seal the slab? no moisture problems, but there are cracks in it. only time i had leaks was when it rained here in n.y. for 7 days straight 2-3 years ago. i might go with tiles.

Sealing of concrete in a basement has been a hot topic here as of late! I am under the impression that you would seal concrete in a garage to keep oil and stuff from soaking in and staining the concrete. A basement should not have this problem and I can't think of a good reason to seal one!

My opinion is that you will never totally seal a concrete slab. If you seal one crack, water will get in somewhere else if there is hydrostatic pressure. Finding all the cracks is near impossible because many of them aren't visible yet.
