built in/recessed shelving

I'm in the middle of finishing my basement, walls are all framed out with 2x4 at 24"OC. Let me try to explain what I (or should I say my wife) wants me to do...

We have a small area where our bar will be, behind that is a new interior wall that I have already studded out... In the middle of that wall, approx 4' high, we'd like to insert some shelves that will be recessed/built-in. Basically flush with the finished wall when done, and approximately 12" deep.

I've thought of a number of ways to do this, from stick framing with 2x's to framing a box out of 1"x12"x4' pine boards.

We'd like to hang 2 glass shelves in there, still haven't figured out how to hang'em.

Any suggestions on the best way to go about adding this recessed box area?

Any suggestions on how to best hang the 2 glass shelves inside?

Build a box from cabinet grade 3/4" Sandeply plywood, run a row of 1/4" holes spaced equally from the front edge and back edge, 1" apart from about 12" from the top and 12" from the bottom. The holes will allow you to insert shelf pins and lay your glass shelf on it. Make sure to use 1/4" glass.
