Question Insulation of crawl spaces

I am remodeling a 125 year old home, the floors are in excellent condition. There is about 8 to 12 inches of crawl space under the floors. These floors are icy cold during the winter months. My question is what kind of insulation could I use to help this problem. Would blown insulation be the answer or just what? I would rather not tear the flooring up. I have carpet in all the rooms but the kitchen and dining room. Maybe a thicker pad when I lay new carpet. If anyone has a suggestion I am open.
