dirt walls in basement

The mortar has fallen off my dirt walls in the basement. The basement is 100 plus years old. How do I re-plaster or re- mortar the walls to keep water out of the basement? The walls are about 4 ft. tall then are flat back to the foundation. Kind of lke a shelf.

You have a concrete foundation but for some reason dirt piled up inside it? I'm confused.

In any case, mortar on dirt will not keep water out of a basement.

I think, that is the way the house was built, 100 years ago...an earthen foundation. The mortar that was applied to the walls, at some later point, is not structural, but just to cover the dirt.

You can probably call a company that does mudjacking and they may recoat for you.

I am not positive about this, but my grandparents had an old farm house built in that fashion.

(I, for one, am amazed that anything could confuse Kobuchi!)
