Basement Air Circulation

Just joined this site tonight, looks fantastic!
I never had a basement before, live at NJ shore. What is the conventional wisdom....do I open the basement windows in winter, summer, when?
I have a humidifier running now cause everything got moldy last year, not not sure if I should have that on in winter or summer?
So right now its an unfinished basement and I have windows closed, running humidifier and it collects a lot of water!
Nice and cool down there.
Next year might finish off, what to do then?
All advice appreciated!

Welcome to the forums! Hopefully your have a de-humidifier running. The dehumidifier will do its job, but not with the windows open. One or the other. Air circulation via the open windows or dehumidifying. I would opt for the dehumidifier. Is there insulation between the basement ceiling and living area above? Should be. The dehumidifier knows when to run, so set it at mid point and let it do its job. Good luck with the remodel when you get to it, and let us know if we can help.
