what insulation to use in basement

what insulation to use in basement

im about to start doing my basement with sheetrock and half cement board but im not sure what insulation to use behind it,i want it to be as waterproofed as possiable but also doing it the correct way. i live in the northeast just out of nyc..

Insulation doesn't do anything to waterproof it. If you are using 2x4s, R13 Kraft Faced is what I would use.

And if your basement walls are underground, insulation may be redundant, since the walls will be geothermally correct anyway. Their temperature won't vary much from about 70 degrees year around. However, insulation won't hurt, and as stated waterproofing is not accomplished by insulation. Kraft faced insulation has a moisture barrier build in that must be installed toward the living space, but other than that, take care of your water first.

Still no waterproofing properties. More expensive than fiberglas, especially in 3" blocks.
