Finished Basement Ceiling Insulation?
Ok i have a question for you guys. I am working on finishing my basement and when i come to the ceiling i got a question. Right now its got insulation in the ceiling (under my house floor, basement ceiling). My question is do i need that insulation in the ceiling of basement? under the house floor? The basement is going to be heated and cooled and i have air return from basement to house. so wouldnt the heat just rise up to the house?

Don't end up singing the Whitesnake's "Don't know whatcha got, till it's gone." I had no insulation between floors. As I was working on the remodel, I could hear every word coming from the upstairs tv through the basement ceiling. I'm sure drywall snubbed some of it out, but I also installed insulation prior to drywall. It's nice. Whats said upstairs, stays upstairs.

Is your main floor cold? If so, remove the insulation.
Think of it this way, there is no insulation between the main floor and the second floor. Sure you hear some floor traffic noise. However most noise in a house travels through the duct work. Back in the day they didnt have electrical intercom systems. They used a piece of pipe.
Also check the federal governemnts recommendations for home insulation between floors.

Remember the rim joists, especially if sawn solid wood, (it shrinks and expands with the seasons): Insulate Basement Rim Joists | thefamilyhandyman.com | DIY Projects | Reader's Digest Glass batts do next to nothing against air leaks at the rim. Leave it for a warmer floor.
