Getting rid of attic altogether

I have a 100 yr old farm house with low ceilings on the second floor. I don't need an attic and want to tear open the ceilings and expose the attic. What do I need to know?

Whatever the engineer you hire to survey the work tells you. Most likely you can't do it because the ceiling joists will tend to hold the walls together. You may need the attic. How is the hot air evacuated from above your rooms? Without an attic, you will experience much more heating and cooling costs.
