Recessed lighting in basement?

So I'm thinking of trying to put in some recessed lighting in my basement. I've never really done any electrical work before so this is new to me.

My basement has a tiled ceiling and just one light in the center right now. There isn't any access to above the ceiling. Would it be possible to add any more fixtures in a ceiling like this without demolishing the ceiling? I don't really have any idea of the condition of the space between the ceiling and the floor above.

It's easy enough to snake wires through if they are running parallel to the furring strips. If you try to go across them, it's harder.
