level crawl space?
#1

Trying to put the crawl space together since I've gotten the foundation in and put drainaige tile around perimeter. I now have snow in it and the ground is freezing (northern Wisconsin).
I have clumps of frozen ground from the backfill into it and snow on top of that. Is this area suppose to be level and dry before installing vapor barrier? Where does the snow and wet stuff go if I do that now? thanks-you've been very helpful for me so far!

If you are pouring a floor, you need to put a propane heater in the crawl & get rid of the snow, level the ground, spread 6" of gravel, apply the vapour barrier, then pour the concrete. Much the same if its a dirt floor, (less the gravel). Your drainage system you installed will take care of the water. If the crawl will not be insulated when your finished, leave it. Nature will dispense with the snow & run off in spring.

Yes, your crawl space needs to be dry and level before putting down your vapor barrier. Do not worry about that now. It will not slow down your progress. You can put your vapor barrier down next summer when everything dry out. The melted snow will just be absorbed into the soil.
don't forget ventilation, and an access to your crawl space.
What part of northern Wis. do you live in? I have lots of customers in that area. Maybe you might know them.

Hi Jack and Allan! I'm on the outskirts of Superior, Wisconsin.
I should have mentioned the drainage pipe is on the outside of perimeter along the footings and then to daylight.
The crawl space will be dirt.
I have read of high density polyethalane vapor barrier where no vents are needed. I also have ICF's in for the walls. I don't plan on heating or using the crawl space. Are you familiar with this new stuff?
I really want to finish building. Thanks again.
