Question

We are building a new home in the Midwest and am concerned that the basement floor is not very level. Since we plan to finish the basement at a later time, paid extra for a bathroom rough-in and will pay alot for the basement itself is it reasonable to expect a fairly level floor other than sloping around drains or sumps?

Also what is the best way to check level for floors? Wood or concrete.

Thanks

Yes, your floor should be level. That is easy to do before you pour your concrete. Hard to do afterward. I guess I do not understand your last sentence.

Basement floors

Thanks for your reply. Obviously there is a world of difference between builders in Wisconsin and Indiana. The basements we saw in Wisconsin were always very smooth concrete and looked ready to finish. Here (Indiana) the floors have stroke marks, ripple and swirls from the paddles they used to smooth out the concrete. The builders basically say if the floor isn't more than 3/8" of of level in a 38" span it's okay.

As for my last question I was wondering what methods are the best to determine if a floor area is level?

Thanks
