Attic Stairs.....Keep the Wooden or Install Aluminum?

Just recently bought a Werner Televator attic ladder for my 8 foot ceiling garage attic and having second thoughts about installing it. I currently have a wooden type folding stairway that is in pretty decent condition but the bottom of the ladder needs to be cut to make it flush with the ground which would close that bottom joint. I'd like to use the Televator since I've got it and can't return it. The problem is I have a 52 inch door that covers the hole in the ceiling and it looks like I can't use it with the Televator since it has various metal arms, hinges and springs that attach to the wooden stairs. Would I be better off repairing the wooden stairs than installing the Televator? Is there someway I could use the door?

Thanks,

Barry

Repair the existing stairs and sell the other one on Craigslist You can probable get a return on them, but shipping will be a bear.
