Unfinished crawlspace - need advise.

We just bought a 1950's (victorian) house at upstate NY (Albany). It was undergo with major renovation (roof replacement, new gyp board and insulation, etc.)

My only concern is that the crawlspace is unfinished (approximately 800SF). Below detail of the unfinished crawlspace:
-Floor is a sand
-There's some water stain on the wall
-Heat pump (indoor) is in the crawlspace
-Hot water tank is in the crawspace
-Pipe under the floor without any insulation
-they put some insulation cover on all of the windows (maybe to elimate some water coming-in)

I want the crawlspace to be usable - mainly storage and easy for my heat pump and water tank easy to maintain (though existing maintenance space for my aircon and tank unit is fine) .

My question is, what future repair or renovation I need to do? Floor concreting will be very expensinve, how about put some crate to the floor (sand) and use it as a storage? I'm really not sure if that is okay to do.

Thank you in advance.

Using a crawl space for storage is a bad idea. Why do u have windows in a crawl? 6 mil vp sealed would be the first thing that should be done.

How tall is this "crawl space"? 6 mil vb is rolled plastic vapor barrier in a 6 mil thickness. 4" x 6" is the size of a postcard. Verify.

chandler,

Size of the windows in the crawlspace is 8x6"

height of crawlspace is 6feet.

so where should I install the 6mil? - in the unfinished floor or staple it on the crawlspace ceiling? what will the purpose of 6mil?
