Basement floor covering

I want to put vinyl tiles on my basement floor.
Floor has stress grooves in it. Also around the posts there is cracking. I talked to a contractor(not the builder) and he said the cracking is normal settling. Method here is to put a footer under each post individually. Its a new house.
What can I fill the grooves and cracks with to smoothe out the floor. I dont believe filling in the grooves will undo their function.
