build basement under existing house?
#1
I would like to know if it would be possible to build a basement under my current house. We have a crawlspace that is under the whole house, about 2.5-3 feet deep. The house is 2 stories and about 45 years old.
If it is possible, what steps do I need to take to accomplish this? I know it is going to cost, but anyway to give a rough estimate. The house is about 60x25.
Thanks

That's a lot of dirt shootdawg! I just had estamites for the same job. A smaller space than yours... 18'x20' 3 feet of dirt. They wanted $5000 just for dirt removal. So I decided to do it my self...(see a prior post "excavating a crawlspace" in this basement forum) Good Luck. Dong

It can be done, but not an easy job. We are just getting ready to start a job just like yours. Excavating, pouring new concrete floor, all drain tiles, walls, etc. $15,000.
It also makes a difference where you live. If you send me your e-mail I will send you some photo's of a job we did last spring, it may give you some ides.
