Glass Blocks
#1

I am interested in putting glass block windows in the basement and also building a glass block bar. I couldn't find any information on glass block projects. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You're best source is the yellow pages
I did a glass block bar 2 years ago. I have lights (rope lights) behind it and it looks great!! Even my teens like it. The top is mahogany plywood with an upholstered front edge. I even routed a solid mahogany drip edge for the back edge.
I didn't have any plans. I looked at a lot of regular bars for ideas on height, width, features I liked, etc. Then I sketched it out. Do some research (its fun) to see what styles you like.
I referred to books on making kitchen cabinets for the cabs behind the glass block, though an all glass block bar is ok too.
My source for info on glass block was a local glass block contractor/dealer. Look in the yellow pages under glass block. Don't try to get any info from Home Depot, Lowes, etc. They have no experience and less knowledge! Go to the pros. The advice was free. They even gave me a little bit of mortar so I wouldn't have to buy another full bag to finish the job. They'll show you all kinds of block - it'll be hard to decide! They can even make suggestions on the design.
Then buy your block from them. Their prices on the standard stuff is comparable to Lowes and Home Depot. You won't get ripped off. And the advice is priceless.
More questions? Just ask.
