too cold in my denn

I have a attic in my denn but it gets cold cold in the denn . I chek the attic and a vent goes tru there. can i cover the vent and insulate the holle attic and use it for storage. Please help me .

What kind of a vent is it, and why do you need to cover it? If it's a heating and/or cooling vent, it should have an R-5 or so wrap over it, enclosed in plastic. Depending on where you live, you need at least an R-19 insulation in the attic. Check with your local bldg. dept. and see what the minimum attic insulation is for your area. Once you get that insulation in the attic, you probably don't want to use it for storage. That would tend to compress the insulation, and decrease it's "R" value.
