basement floor lowering

was going to do some basement remodeling but from floor to ceiling is only about 5'6" i would like to dig upthe concrete and remove about 1'6" of the dirt and repour the floor my ? is will there be any problem doing so would there be a problem with the footing or anything thanks in advance for the advice

I would have a contractor and/or structural engineer come take a look before you start digging. They can assess the age/shape of the foundation wall and if it's a old house you may not have a footing which could be a real problem. That 1 foot or so of dirt under the floor you want to remove may be providing vital support to the basement wall.

When ever I have a customer who wants this done, the first thing I look at or try to determine is the water table in the soil. Bad deal to hit the water table. Big problems real quick. You may have to contact your County Extension Agent.
