How to level a very uneven basement floor
My basement floor is painted concrete, 250 square feet. We had padded carpeting on it which masked the unevenness. The floor has numerous patches and pockmarks. We want to install linoleum (too many pets and their spills for carpeting). I am getting inconsistent info on what needs to be done to level the floor. One source says I need to bring in a concrete truck to pump concrete into the basement...sounds very expensive. Another source says I can get it done with a one man contractor who would bring in a large sanding machine of some sort to level the floor before laying out a leveling compound, but someone else says my basement is too big for that. Another source says that there is some kind of wood subfloor (found at Home Depot I'm told) that can be adjusted that would work as a subflooring flat surface for the linoleum. Does anyone have any thoughts, and more importantly, what kind of company would I call to get this done? Cost? Any advice is appreciated. I tried to upload photos but the upload function kept failing on me.

Out of curiosity have you looked into self leveling cement? Works wonders it goes on like water but when it hardens your floor will be level . Just make sure you raise your drains to match the new floor height

Self leveling concrete
In response to this thread...when I bought a bank owned home, I pulled up all the tile and carpet, down to concrete (in live in desert/Nv). I had them sand and stain it, but as you can imagine, there are cracks, pits and imperfections that I wasn't expecting, but we HAD to move in immediately so no time to re concrete the floors. (I like this floor finish over wood, hate tile, hate carpet...love stained concrete). Now, a year later, these imperfections are really bothering me. I saw this post and wonder if this product can be used over existing stained concrete (matte finis seal)? If so, drying time? Can it be colored or stained after drying? How thick of a layer is laid on the floor? Lastly, I am having a double doorway to my den/third bedroom fitted with a sliding door and wonder how much clearance I should allow at the bottom for a future homeowner who my want to put in flooring? What would the total potential be for sub flooring (3/4"?) and then hardwood or carpets? Another 3/4"? I know it will be a gap now but the door is expensive and the next owner may not like concrete floors...though I am also laying my baseboards flush with my concrete floors so they will have to remove all of them if they change floors....thanks in advance, I know it's a lot of questions.
