Replacing attic ladder measurement question.

I am looking to replace my attic ladder but it is 23.5 opening and they only carry 22.5 like this:Werner 8 ft. - 10 ft., 22.5 in. x 54 in. Energy Seal Aluminum Attic Ladder Universal Fit with 375 lb. Maximum Load Capacity-AE2210 at The Home Depot I was thinking of adding .5 to each side to comensate is this the correct thing to do?

Check local code before reducing the width. Here most models of attic stairs sold by BigBox do not meet minimum width to be city code compliant. I have seen people whose jobs were red tagged for this. Going back to BigBox they usually found only one model among those carried that met size requirements.
