Unsure how to get baffles in place

Hey All,

Yesterday, I had someone tell me that insulation in the attic was covering the exterior vents of our house (soffit vents). I did a little looking online and figured, OK, just need to remove extra insulation and install baffles alone the perimeter of the house where the vents are.. except when I get in the attic, there is about 3-4 feet of insulation and several feet between the edge of that and where I know the vents approximately are.. I feel like this is a bad setup, but 3/4 of the attic is like this and I was wanting to get some feedback on what I should do to get ventilation going properly up there, it's getting so hot it's turning off our hot water regularly and I don't want to leave the door open to the garage for fear of getting moisture up there.. any ideas?Name: image.jpg

The baffles can be installed from the outside by removing the soffit(if you have an over hang).
