placing a house on jacks
#1
I have a house that had been added onto in 1925. The rear of the house is much older, and it has noticeably listed to one side. water has gotten into the basement and has wet a beam. I need to place my house on jacks. I have several home repair books but none of them seem to cover this majoy home repair. I know enough to stop the water from coming in first, and that another beam has to be sistered in next to it, and I know you can only raise the jacks about a half an inch per week to avoid major damage to windows and doors. What I don't know is the best places to position the jacks in the basement. I am also not sure how to attach the sister beam and to finish the job.

Since we cannot see your home, the best advice we can give you is to get a contractor to look at it. If you put the jacks in the wrong place, you will have big bad problems really quick. The problems will go right up into your roof.
