Half wall or wide open floor plan with columns??

I need opinions! I was going to leave this space wide open and just accept the columns. I started playing around with scrap 2x4 laying it down sectioning off another area and I think I like it. What do you guys think, half walls where the 2x4s are laid out?

Edit: I didn't realize I can't ateach pics from my phone I'll add the pic when I'm home!

IMO, I'd leave the columns without the half walls. It would create a more open feeling, and allow more options for furniture placement.
One exception: adding a half-wall-or full wall around the washing machine, presuming that that is the final location for the laundry, might be worth considering.
Good luck with your project.

Thanks for your input! Everyone I have asked seems to think it will be better left open so I guess open it is. The washer will be moved, that area is actually now a closet.
