I have a basement - roughly 44 foot wide, with a steel I-beam spanning the width. It is supported by 3 - steel poles - roughly 11 feet a part. | |----11-----| |----------o-----------o-----------o-----------| | | I want to move at least one of the poles, so that I can have more open room to finish the basement. | |-------14-----| |----------o-----------o--------o--------------| | | I was thinking that I could install an additional I-beam (wood/steel) along side the exisiting - setting one side on the foundation, the other on an additional pole - next to the one I move. Will that work?
