Basement subfloor
#1
Please help! We have an old basement with old, cracked tile layed over a concrete floor. I'd like to put a new subfloor over the tile, but I'm not sure how to lay a subfloor on a concrete surface. Please give me any suggestions!!!!!

There are various approaches that will work. First, you need to make sure that the basement is dry. I assume that it is. What I have done in the past, given that we are in Minnesota and have both ground water and humidity problems, I roll on a coat or two of water proofing paint. I then use either a rubber membrane or .04 mil plastic sheeting to provide a vapor barrier. Next, I fir the floor up with 1 X 3 green treated lumber. The firing can be attached by power set (concrete nails set using a .22 cal nail set) or use of PL400 construction adhesive (I use both). Then I use green treated 3/4" toungue and groove plywood panels as a sub-floor. From this point you can use your final covering. Good luck.
