Flying Freehold - Bathroom Installation

I have the above property. It has a flying freehold as you can see to the right of the picture. The room is above a public footpath and attached on our house and our neighbours house. We are in the process of putting a bathroom in and I am worried about the weight. It seems silly but I have visions of sitting in the bath and falling through, I think it's probably to do with knowing that there isn't anything underneath. Can anyone comment and put my mind at rest.

It's not that easy to put your mind to rest. Do you have an architect, to draw plans, for the bathroom? Besides the structural question, other questions include, plumbing, electric & ventilation.

Since you haven't indicated what region you live in - is freezing pipes a concern? It can be difficult to adequately insulate plumbing when there is open air under the space.

Why would this be any different then the way any bathrooms built on a second floor or over a crawl space or basement?
So how do you plan on connecting up the drain line to the main house?
