Metal stud wall on carpet

I'm putting up two partition walls in the basement. All the other walls are steel stud. The area is carpeted, No pad (thoroughly glued to concrete). Can I bolt the bottom plate with a ramset through the carpet? I have 1" nails, should I use 1.5" or larger to ensure proper connection? The shorter wall will have a door into a closet, should I bolt it in every bay to ensure the movement doesn't loosen it?

Not a good idea. You want a solid base for your wall plus if the carpet ever gets wet or you want to change it you're stuck with a piece of carpet under the wall that can't be removed.

The ramset may either mangle the track when you nail it, or shoot clean through. Plus someone someday will curse the guy who was too lazy to cut the carpet. Don't have a utility knife?

You just need to cut all the way through the carpet and grab it with a pliers. Pulling up a 4" strip should be easy if you have cut all the way through the carpet.
