Framing around Basement windows
#1
I really need some help... I am framing out basement and I need help with the windows.. I intend on putting in a drop ceiling, so how do I frame around the windows.. My windows go up to top block on foundation the drop ceiling will be approx 4 inches below that... Any and all info will be greatly appreciated... Thanx alot..

Would it be possible to slope the ceiling (drywall) from the top of the window down to the drop ceiling? You could either do it inside the width of the wall, or extend it several inches into the ceiling, sort of like a skylight. Just a thought...

In your type of situation we create kind of an upside down 3 sided box of 2 X 4's that we then wrap with drywall. This hangs down from the bottom of the ceiling joists just far enough to show a bit of a reveal - approx. 1/2" or so below the line of the ceiling grid. email me if you want a picture of an application similiar to this in a ductbox that I have. Hope this helps.

Yes, I would love to see a pic... Hard to understand on paper.. So would I frame like a square box on ceiling joist to start and then angle down from there, where does ceiling grid attach? I am not ready to do my ceiling yet, so do I have to wait until then... Really appreciate all your help Dave.... I Started finishing my basement in Febuary and I am loving every minute of it.. Very Challanging but having a great time... thanx again for everybody's help.. I'll look foward to pic's Dave..
