How can I best make my crawl space into a basement. My home has about 1500 sf crawl space. The home is a 1960's raised foundation. How can dig out without bothering the existing foundation? How do I build outside access when cutting the foundation without harming the integrity of the foundation? Asside from a having a complete plan (the purpose of my questions), what steps should I take first?

Hello,
The process of excavating a crawlspace, pouring footings, foundations walls, and floor slab is a long process.

If I could I'd like to recommend 2 books that helped me do exactly what you are attempting. "Renovating old Houses" by George Nash and "Foundations and Concrete Work" by Fine Homebuilding Builders Library.
Also, a structural engineer could help you answer structural integrity questions and give helpful design idea. It's not too expensive and puts your mind at ease to have one come check out your place and most will let you call them during the process for advice and recommendations.

Good luck with your project!
