Question HIgh pitched whine in laundry room, appears to be coming from ceiling

Folks---I know there have been other threads on a similar phenomenon. None seemed relevant to our situation. We have an intermittent high-pitched whine that appears to be coming from ceiling in laundry room in basement. No such sound in adjacent rooms. The whine comes and goes whether or not lights are on, anything is flowing through pipes in that room, or anything else that is on or off. The sound seems to be "inorganic," but I wonder. I have tried to attach an mp3 file but apparently that doesn't work on this forum. The sound is like tinnitus on steroids, which I don't have (either). Poltergeists? Thank you for sincere responses.

Hello and welcome to the forum! I don't know of any forum that one can attach a soundwave to. You can however, upload it to YouTube and put the link to that video here.

Shows pictures of your laundry room. Including all walls and ceiling. List everything in the room. Washing machine, dryer, clock, speakers, etc...Can others hear the sound? What else in the surrounding area is happening?

Check your water heater. Our electric water heater does this occasionally. We correct it by switching modes from energy saver and back to energy saver. (Whirlpool water heater)
