We live in Florida. We're looking at making home improvements and one of them is a gable end attic fan. Louvers will be installed in the south end of the house and the attic fan in the north end of the house.

My husband wants to purchase a 36" direct drive fan which is rated to move 8225 cfm. Our house is approx. 1500 sq ft and I am concerned that this is WAY too much fan.

Does anyone have any insight into the situation? How much is enough for this size house?

Thanks!

I would think that 36" is too big. Try a 24".

A direct drive is usually a high volecity fan.

If you have soffit vents the air can pull the insulation away from the edges of the house and leave bare drywall.

It is usually best to duct from the ceiling opening to the fan.

If you are trying to stay cool with less a/c I would sugegst installing a radiant barrier over your existing insulation. Up here in Il. I have reduce a/c run times as much as 65%. Check with Fl. Solar Energy Center. They are on line. You might also get some credits.

In your search engine try "radiant barrier insulation" or "reflactive insulation".

Thank youfor considering my personal opinion.
