I am trying to figure out how to close crawl space vents from the outside of the house. I am not able to get in the crawl space and I would prefer not to have to hire someone to do it each summer and winter.

The kind that I have appear to have a screw in the middle of some sort of rectangular bracket looking thing. It is a new house-ranch style-no basement, just a crawl space.

Any suggestions are welcome

Hi Irishpat,
Your vents probably do not have a way to close and open as most do not. You want ventalation thru you basement to prevent moisture problems. Your crawl space should be insulated between the floor joists. I'm surprised you don't have access to the crawlspace somewhere small access door or something. Try turning the screw on the vent plates and see what it does. Repley with any questions.
Hope it helps,
