Proper Gable Vent Placement

How far below the peak should the vent be placed? I have siding guys who will be cutting holes tomorrow and they wnat to place them about 3-4 ft below the peak (the peak is just over 40 ft high, that may have something to do with it, to high for them). I don't think that placement is correct. Your timely input would be helpful. Thanks

we usually put them 1-2 ft below the peak depending on the size of the vent.maybe you vent is too large to be that close and thats why they want to place it further down
