Question

Help!

We have just removed a rug from a basement room, and discovered a loose fitting metal sheet covering a 10 inch deep square hole about 15 inches around. We dug and could not find any pipes or anything except rotten wood frame surrounding the hole. Inside this hole is only dirt.

Question, what would the hole be for? and should we fill it up with cement and then put the new rug on it?

thanks,
Charlie

My guess is that this is the rough-in for the basement tub. I think you will find a drain pipe if you dig deeper. Post back and let us know.

Hi,

I will dig deeper to check for pipes, however when I did before I could not find pipes. Our neighbour looked at it and thinks it was a safe in the floor by the way the cement is broken around the edges, he thinks it was pulled out?

thanks
Charlie

Hole in basement floor

When I was reading your post, my first thought was buried treasure. You friend may well be correct about the infloor safe. You could simply replace the metal plate and place your own time capsule in the hole.
