I've heard that installing pulldown stairs in an attic that features roof trusses, like the kind seen all the time in mass-produced housing developments, is not recommended. Can anyone tell me why, and is there some safe way to install the stairs? Thanks for any help you can give me --

Dropdown stairs

When I tried clicking the website in my previous post, it would not take me to the article. So, I did a keyword search (the box at the top right hand corner of the page) for dropdown stairs and it took me to the article for you. Scroll down and click the article after you do the keyword search.

Thanks for the link -- I did take a look at this article already, but it doesn't explain why you shouldn't install the stairs in a trussed attic, or if there is a way, what special steps are necessary. It just says in the Caution section "not recommended if you have trusses...". Any ideas why?

Pulldown stairs in trussed attic

If you have 2x8" or 2x10" trusses like in the older homes, there's no worry about ability to support a floor. Engineered 2x4" joist are self supporting and never intended to support a floor. Find more info at
