subflooring installation

I want to install a wood plank floor on a cement slab. I have been told that in order to install I will need to put a sub floor of either 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch. My question is what is the best way to install the sub floor to concrete?

Installing subfloor on concrete

There are many useful hardwood flooring installation sites on the internet. Go to http://www.hardwoodcouncil.com, one such site, for tips for installing subfloor on concrete. Concrete should be well aged but you should still use a moisture barrier. Hardwood is not recommended for installation on concrete below grade such as in basements.

caulk around truss plate

I recently built my first house (moved in 7 months ago). I have noticed a lot of spiders, crickets, and bugs in the basement (which is not finished) I pulled the insulation out around the perimeter of the basement walls (area between the 2x4 truss plate and the subfloor or ceiling of the basement (about 12"). Noticed that there are some gaps around the sill plate and the 2x12. Would it be a good idea to caulk this area from the basement or run a bead of caulk around the siding edge from exterior.

I have concrete floors in my basement. The floors are very uneven. What could I use to help level them out, to prepare for carpet? Thanks for your help, Bob
