Question Attic bathroom...

I have an all brick home that was built in 1948 that guess it's a cape code style, and has a master bedroom up stairs in the attic. There is another room off the bedroom that is not finished, and I would like to make this a master bath. The floor beams are 2x8, and are about 17ft long in the area that the bathroom would be. I'm wondering if the 2x8 would be able to hold the weight of a tub that hold aprox 46 gal(380 lbs) and have ceramic tile on the floor as well?? If not? What could I do to add the support that I need?? ie) add additional 2x8's?? Thanks!!

Hello
are the joist under the master bedroom also 2x8? are there any supporting walls under the area you want the bathroom? do you have a way to get the plumbing to work? If yes to all or most you may be able to double the 2x8 to give extra support.....
Good Luck....

Hey Some Help,

Well the bedroom does have the 2x8's as well, and there is not a support wall under where the tub would be. What might be the best way to reinforce the floor??

Hello
You may not need a support under the tub if it is next to a wall or the span to support is not to far.2x8 are used for floor joist as you have in the bedroom...I would try to work out all the plumbing and see if it will work or what you will need to do to make it work and work around it....Good Luck
